120 Artist Quality Colours with a sublime Rembrandt brilliance and intensely deep colours of unspeakable depths. The optimal colour strength in the oil paint is due to the highest possible concentration of pigments and very fine grinding. Rembrandt Oil has the highest degree of lightfastness and very pure colours with greatest durability of the paint coat. Zinc white and Titanium white both based on linseed oil (for painting grounds) and based on non-yellowing safflower oil. Choose from Permanent madder lake colours, very pure Transparent red and yellow and transparent colours based on iron oxide pigments.

Below is a breif explaination of the different colour types in the Rembrandt Oil Range.

Zinc white 117 and Titanium white 118 are linseed oil based, the other whites are based on safflower oil. Linseed oil produces a strong film but does yellow somewhat in time. Safflower oil produces a film with other properties but shows virtually no yellowing. White based on safflower oil in a layered buildup of a painting, whereby it forms an underlayer for colours based on linseed oil, can produce a less durable result. It is therefore recommended to limit the use of white paint based on safflower oil to the final phase of the painting.

A highly transparent white based on transparent titanium white pigment. For applying white glazing layers or making other glazing colours lighter.

Completely transparent colours that are, moreover, very pure.

Durable colours, traditionally used for their high degree of lightfastness and opacity.

Highly lightfast, semi-opaque alternatives for the traditional cadmium colours.

Originally, madders are moderately lightfast. In the Rembrandt oil colours range the traditional ‘lacquered pigments’ have been replaced by modern and exceedingly stable real pigments.

A series of very reliable and exclusive cobalt colours in many shades of blue, violet and green.

A series of extremely transparent and durable ‘earth colours’.

A series of stable metallic colours based on ‘iriodine’ pigments. In contrast to the use of, for example, copper and zinc powder to imitate gold and silver, respectively, iriodine pigment does not oxidize when exposed to the air. In the course of time no change of colour will take place.

Special mixing colour with a pearlescent sheen based on iriodine pigment. Combined with transparent colours, it produces a whole range of pearlescent shades. These show best on a deep coloured ground.
