Many say watercolour paints are one of the hardest to work with, as there are so many techniques nowadays to use with the paint. However, many watercolour painters would disagree and say that Oils are the hardest to use. It is deffinatly a medium that requires practice and patience. Dont be but off though as allot can be acheaved with basic easy to use techniques.  If you need to have a paint that will be consitantly the same shade and tone as it is already mixed with water then why not try out our liquid watercolour.

As you hear the word watercolour you instantly think WATER and use a lot of it but, many Botanical Artists use watercolours but use very little water. It all depends on the individual artist. Watercolours are a transparent paint, and you tend to paint dark colours over light, and concentrated over diluted. They are fine to take outdoors to paint with but, I would suggest to paint outdoors with watercolours when its a wet day as would effect your painting, unless you are like Jackson Pollock!

They joy of watercolours though is you can add as much water as you would like and, they are almost like magic as they create really interesting effects as the colours blend into each other and, create beautiful washes. You can get what is called Liquid Masking Film, which you use to create highlights in your painting and, ideal for leaving areas that are to be left white on your subject. These take practice but, watercolours produce stunning effects and, the other popular techniques used with watercolour is salt to absorb some of the colours creating a marble effect and, dabbing cotton wool or a sponge is ideal for creating clouds in landscape paintings.

We also have a great selection of watercolour starter sets.
